When a collaboration between Nintendo and Sony didn't pan out, Sony decided to venture on in the home console market alone. They offered up the Sony Playstation and it was a smash hit. It would not only jumpstart Sony's rise to power in the market but also push the preferred media platform for future game systems from other developers towards the Compact Disc away from the ROM cartridges.
